Mandatory registration of dogs in the Central Dog Registry
Dear clients, from July 1, 2026, there will be a legal obligation in the Czech Republic to register all dogs in the new, state-established Central Dog Registry (CEP). (Previous registrations in private registries do not replace this obligation.) Registration in the CEP is carried out by a veterinarian based on the breeder's request.
Older dogs must be registered at the latest during their next rabies vaccination; however, we will be happy to register them for you on the occasion of any other visit to us. This service is charged at CZK 300.
Puppies must be microchipped and registered in the CEP before being handed over to the new owner.
The following data is entered into the register:
- Identification data of the dog (chip number, tattoo, pet passport)
- Basic information (breed, sex, castration)
- Rabies vaccination
- Contact details of the breeder (which the breeder can edit in the system in case of loss)
Third-country nationals must register their dog if they are staying in the Czech Republic for more than 6 months. There is no exemption for EU citizens registered in another member state.
Veterinarians, public authorities and security forces - the Police of the Czech Republic and the Municipal Police, the State Veterinary Administration and municipalities and city authorities have access to this non-public register.
